How did award output change in cybersecurity, computer science, and information technology?

Across all credential levels, cybersecurity awards rose 44.2%, computer science 35.9%, and information technology 26.8% between awards conferred in 2019–20 and 2022–23. Both source releases are revised. Two endpoints show change, not a multi-year trend.

What does the national Information Security Analyst market look like?

Information Security Analysts had 190,650 workers and a $129,180 median wage in May 2025. BLS projects 28.5% growth from 2024 to 2034 and 16,000 average annual openings. Openings include replacement needs and are not current vacancies.

How do connected cybersecurity careers compare?

The official crosswalk connects cybersecurity with Information Security Analysts and Computer Network Architects; computer science also connects with Information Security Analysts and Computer and Information Research Scientists. The latter two careers have 11.9% and 19.7% projected growth, respectively. These are preparation links, not placement probabilities.

What outcome and AI-use context is available?

The Scorecard broader-field benchmark was $61,560 one year after completion for a published cybersecurity cohort, but the release and cohort calendar are unavailable. Anthropic reported a 0.4859 observed Claude-use measure for Information Security Analysts. Neither measure establishes a shortage or predicts employment effects.

What does the combined evidence say about the national cybersecurity talent picture?

National cybersecurity talent analysis

Reported cybersecurity degrees increased 44.2%, from 20,638 to 29,758.

Computer Science degrees increased 35.9%, from 52,257 to 71,034.

Information Technology degrees increased 26.8%, from 27,756 to 35,205.

These IPEDS figures compare the 2020–21 and 2023–24 collection cycles under CIP 2020 definitions.

They count first-major awards across all credential levels and exclude second majors.

The two revised releases are dated November 9, 2022, and December 30, 2025.

These endpoints do not establish a multi-year trend.

Information Security Analysts had 190,650 employed workers and a $129,180 median annual wage in May 2025.

BLS projects employment to rise from 182,800 in 2024 to 234,900 in 2034.

That equals 28.5% projected growth, with 16,000 average annual openings during 2024–34.

Computer and Information Research Scientists have 19.7% projected growth during 2024–34.

Computer Network Architects have 11.9% projected growth during 2024–34.

Cybersecurity degree growth and national Information Security Analyst demand move upward across their respective periods.

The measures do not establish a national worker shortage or a supply-demand ratio.

The cybersecurity field’s College Scorecard benchmark was $61,560 one year after completion for a published cohort of 5,420.

The comparable benchmarks were $68,023 for Computer Science and $59,686 for Information Technology.

These earnings come from broader four-digit fields, not each exact six-digit field.

The available Scorecard record does not provide a release date or cohort calendar.

The official CIP 2020–SOC 2018 crosswalk links cybersecurity with Information Security Analysts and Computer Network Architects.

Computer Science links with Information Security Analysts and Computer and Information Research Scientists.

These structural links identify careers that fields can prepare students for, not graduate placements or employment probabilities.

Information Security Analysts had an observed Claude-use measure of 0.4859 in Anthropic’s June 26, 2026 release.

That measure does not predict worker replacement, job losses, employment growth, or productivity.
